Hôpital Sacré-Coeur and Milot Experience Torrential Rains & Flooding

Despite having been spared the full wrath of Hurricane Irma, Hôpital Sacré-Coeur and Milot endured fierce thunderstorms which flooded the area in Irma’s wake, including some of the hospital buildings. During Friday night, torrential rain caused the local river to rise and burst its banks.

Many of the villagers watched their small food stocks, bedding and meager belongings washed away and later pulled from the flood waters.

Flood-3Many villagers had two to three feet of muddy waters in their homes which they tried with great difficulty to sweep from their homes.

The next morning, HSC CEO, Dr. Harold Previl, helped with the distribution of food, a critically important effort as many of the people had no way of cooking and no clean water.
