What if Hôpital Sacré Coeur closed tomorrow?

For over 25 years, the 225,000 people of northern Haiti have turned to Hôpital Sacré Coeur as their source of quality healthcare.

For over 25 years, the region has seen lives saved, injuries healed and health return to the most vulnerable because Hôpital Sacré Coeur exists.

As the region’s largest employer, Hôpital Sacré Coeur drives the local economy. Medical and non-medical staff enjoys steady employment and the, elusive-for-Haiti, living wage. Local vendors and day workers have the rare chance to turn their labors into paychecks and care for their families.

For over 25 years, Hôpital Sacré Coeur has brought continuing education opportunities. We have watched Haitians enter the ranks of the employed, seen them put their graduate skills to work, listened as they speak English for the first time, and heard the joy as children retell their first days at school.

While unimaginable that Hôpital Sacré Coeur would close, it is possible.

The aftermath of the earthquake, the ongoing cholera epidemic, a decrease in medical facilities nationwide, a surge in patients with more complicated health issues, and our growing reputation for excellence, all combine to exert a critical pressure on Hôpital Sacré Coeur services, unique in its over 25 year history. Despite streamlining, the cost of hospital operations remains beyond our budget.
