A Message from CRUDEM/HSC’s 4th President, Dr. David Butler

In April 1992, as I stepped out of a six seat plane on arrival at Cap Haitian in the company of Ted and Carol Dubuque, there was never a thought that at any time would I ever assume a leadership role in the CRUDEM organization. However, on January 1, 2012, I find my name listed as President of CRUDEM, succeeding Ted Dubuque, Tom Flynn and Peter Kelly.

Hopefully, this is not just another example of the “Peter Principle,” but rather a story of trying to build on the accomplishments of these dedicated professionals. What they have accomplished for CRUDEM/Hôpital Sacré Coeur and the people of Haiti really has to be seen to be believed.

Where do we go from here? There certainly will not be an effort to change the style and direction of CRUDEM. It remains as important as ever to adhere to our mission and the realization that our role is to guide and empower our Haitian brothers and sisters in the functioning of Hôpital Sacré Coeur and all that this encompasses.

Since I am a full-time practicing Obstetrician/Gynecologist, I am acutely aware of the role that education plays in healthcare.

We shall continue the efforts championed by my predecessors to bring first class medical education to the hospital, and just as importantly, to stress consistency and follow-up in our educational efforts.

Hopefully, there will be a seamless transition in carrying out the post-earthquake blueprint fashioned so skillfully by Peter Kelly.

In assuming this office with humility and some trepidation, you can be assured that we will do our best to guarantee that the only thing that changes is the name at the top of the letterhead. The mission, principles and aims of The CRUDEM Foundation and Hôpital Sacré Coeur are constant and immutable. We shall continue to create a healthier Haiti – one dignified life at a time.

God bless you all and thank you for your continuing support!
Dr. Butler, MD
