What A Difference A Day Makes!
We’ve been in Haiti for almost 25 years. On January 12th, CRUDEM’s greatest passion met Haiti’s greatest need. Now, we urgently need your support to help Haitians regain their health and their footing for the long road ahead!
By now, we have all seen the devastating images of pain and suffering in Haiti following the tragic earthquake; the images and news have been both heartbreaking and sobering. But, through the collective efforts of our volunteers, Hôpital Sacré Coeur staff, and our generous friends and donors, Hôpital Sacré Coeur continues to make a big difference in the lives of so many Haitians and helps keep hope alive.
In the aftermath of the earthquake, Hôpital Sacré Coeur responded immediately. Within 2 weeks, the hospital grew from a 63 bed to a 400+ bed hospital, and the quality of care was never compromised. Hôpital Sacré Coeur quickly became the main referral hospital in Haiti because the hospital has the greatest capacity and expertise to treat severely ill and wounded patients requiring specialized care. Dedicated volunteers and staff mobilized resources and supplies and quickly set up schools in the community as hospital wards and triage. Today, the flow of patients has started to slow, but the need remains great.
As I reflect over the past month on all that has happened and all we have accomplished, I remember how Hôpital Sacré Coeur started nearly twenty-five years ago as a small 6 bed clinic and I cannot help but see the hand of God. God, in His divine wisdom, worked though our founders to begin a process that would save so many injured souls in a catastrophe none of us could have predicted or imagined.
Now, more than ever, Hôpital Sacré Coeur remains committed to supporting the long-term needs of our patients and their families. But the challenges are great, and providing quality care to the Haitian people will require continued commitment from our friends and supporters.
During this season of reconciliation and rejuvenation, I must once again ask you to consider making a gift to Hôpital Sacré Coeur.
