Urgent: All Hospitals Are Packed With People

_I6A8442Subject: URGENT: All hospitals are packed with people

Yesterday, Haiti was struck by the worst earthquake in over 200 years. President René Préval told newspapers: “All of the hospitals are packed with people. It is a catastrophe.”

Indeed, thousands are missing or reported dead, buried under rubble in the Port au Prince area with hundreds of buildings including the Presidential palace and the UN headquarters destroyed. Power supplies and communications networks have been severely disrupted.

Hôpital Sacré Coeur, which is located on the opposite side of the country from Port au Prince, was not directly harmed. But it’s currently running over full capacity and needs your help.

Take action now to help Hôpital Sacré Coeur with disaster relief efforts. The numbers of earthquake victims continue to mount, so every dollar counts.

Many of our patients, staff and the residents of Milot have family and friends in the earthquake stricken area. Their concern and grief is immeasurable. In a country where people suffer on a daily basis, this tragedy is beyond comprehension. According to today’s New York Times:

Dawn brought horrible scenes to light in Haiti’s capital on Wednesday: piles of disintegrated concrete, with limbs sticking out and muffled cries emanating from deep inside; wounded people staggering through the streets; and bodies littering the landscape.

As the situation becomes clearer and rescue efforts take more form, the hospital and the CRUDEM foundation will decide how best to assist our beloved sisters and brothers in the south of Haiti. In the meantime, we will continue, as we have for almost 25 years, to be a steady beacon of life and hope. In the face of tragedy, we continue to live out our vision to create a healthier Haiti, one dignified life at a time.

And you can help us by making an urgent gift today.

Our hearts and prayers go to the people of Port au Prince. We invite you to join us.

God bless you all,

Peter J. Kelly, M.D.
President
