Hôpital Sacré Coeur continually defies the odds
and makes noteworthy progress no matter the
economic or social climate. One area of profound progress involves Hôpital Sacré Coeur’s staff. Several recent medical volunteers recounted their astonishment at how the competency of the hospital staff has grown exponentially over the years. One physician even went so far as to claim his Haitian colleagues’ skills in his specialty surpassed those of his American counterparts.
An Extraordinary Staff…
The continued support you — the donors, volunteers, and prayer warriors — have given Hôpital Sacré Coeur over the years — and decades — certainly contributes to the dedication and capabilities of the staff.
Across the departments, so many employees are exemplary, but here are a few examples:
Former Division Chief of Pediatrics and now
Chief Medical Officer at HSC, Michele Hanna,
MD, juggles medical care, administrative duties, and the continuing educational training of her hospital team with ease and grace. Her patients and their families constantly pour forth praise about her treatment results and her compassionate bedside manner. If there is an extra mile to run, Dr. Hanna will lead the pack.
Groups of American physicians have benefited from Dr. Hannah’s video conference tutorials on her
many fields of expertise, especially diagnosis and treatment of sickle cell anemia. Now, she leads
onsite training in critical care skills and protocols which allows other Hôpital Sacré Coeur practitioners to advance their competencies.
Continued Growth in Professional and Personal Competencies
For more than a decade, Marcelle Etienne
has kept the Hôpital Sacré Coeur’s pharmacy
well stocked, secure, and running smoothly.
Through the exciting installation of an Electronic
Medical Records (EMR) program at Hôpital
Sacré Coeur, Marcelle found a new area in
which to shine. The EMR program records
and tracks a patient’s registration, history, and
progress through the hospital system. A critical
feature of this game changing addition includes
a record of medication disbursements and
supply restock notifications.
Marcelle rose to the occasion in answering the needs of this program. With focused intention, she
increased her computer skills and mastered the new software and implemented technical strategies.
She also made a concerted, enthusiastic effort to assist other participants to ensure a successful
program. As with all staff, when given the opportunity, encouragement, and resources, they call
forth newfound skills, often surprising even themselves.
Your faithful support inspires and motivates Hôpital Sacré Coeur staff daily
Every organization has one employee who
holds the title of rock solid, dependable,
go-to person. Emmanuel Jeannite, Hôpital Sacré
Coeur’s Communication Center Director,
branches beyond his official duties and humbly
answers the many and varied calls. Over the
course of a day, Emmanuel might unearth out
of print instructional manuals, assist in finding
the odd water or air leak in a complex mechanical system, and help solve mysteries about which widget works best in a pesky maintenance
situation. You get the picture. With determination and speed, Emmanuel finds answers that elude
others. The tasks may not be part of his job description, but they are firmly a part of his character
and his love of Hôpital Sacré Coeur.
Stability and Possibilities
Your generosity has enabled Hôpital Sacré Coeur’s expansion with critical medical programs,
modern facilities built to withstand most climatic extremes, and programs attentive to the needs
of an impoverished and beleaguered community. Clearly, Hôpital Sacré Coeur stands solidly as
the hub responsible for excellent healthcare,
regional economic development, and community
stability. As is oft said, “Hôpital Sacré Coeur is
everything to everyone in the region.” During
current challenging times in Haiti, Hôpital Sacré
Coeur’s presence and compassionate tending to
the needs and care of the people provides a
strong, stabilizing force and a fountain of
desperately needed hope.
