Construction Update: Your Funds at Work

By Charles T. Dubuque – Board Member, CRUDEM Foundation, Building Committee Chair

Generator House:
We are in the midst of enlarging our generator house to accommodate our new CAT generators.

This is requiring an entirely new roof as well as an enlarged building. Additionally, we are purchasing two new fuel tanks with the appropriate meters, hoses and couplings that will provide a safer and more secure method of feeding our generators as well as our equipment and vehicles. This project will be completed in November.

Maternity Wing:
The new maternity wing has been erected above the RX/SOP (an old storage depot) using modular materials. This will be finished by early November and operational shortly thereafter once all of the interior medical equipment arrives.

Below the maternity wing, we are converting the RX/SOP storage area into two separate spaces that will be used as an isolation ward and pediatric overflow.

X-Ray Wing:
The long awaited X-Ray wing is coming along nicely and should also be finished shortly. This is next door to the current outpatient clinic.

New Road:
A road has been dug and graded into the Etienne property. Gravel has been applied and the finished look is excellent. This road will lead the way to the new, relocated Nutrition Center.

New Nutrition Center:
We have ordered the modular building that will be our re-located Nutrition Center. This should ship in late October. It will be erected and complete within a couple of weeks of arrival.

Conversion of Current Nutrition Center:
Work has begun to add sleeping/changing rooms on the north end of the current Nutrition Center that will eventually become the Employee Lounge. Once we move the children to the new constructed Nutrition Center on the Etienne property, work will begin in earnest to transform this space into an Employee Lounge that everyone can be proud of.

Pharmacy Relocated:
The Pharmacy has been completely moved into their new space across from the Sprung building. It’s air conditioned and ready for business. The back of the Sprung Building has been shelved, insulated and air conditioned to allow for those products that require appropriate storage.

Fourth Well:
We are aggressively pursuing an agreement to have a fourth well drilled to supply our needs on the CRUDEM compound.

Increased Volunteer Housing:
We are also working very hard to finalize a bid to create volunteer housing within the old supply depot on the CRUDEM compound (behind the medical residence.)

Cloud System:
By late next month we will convert our internet service over to a Cloud based system. This will greatly reduce our cost and eliminate the need to police both volunteers as well as employees over unauthorized internet usage.

Our Valued Team:
Construction Projects Manager, Tim Traynor continues to work diligently on our behalf and is juggling multiple projects in various stages of development. CRUDEM Board member Tom Boldt has been a Godsend. Besides securing thousands of dollars worth of supplies, building relationships with new manufacturers, contractors and suppliers, Tom traveled to Houston to personally inspect a company that manufactures modular structures. He met with the ownership, visited their factory, watched the assembly of a structure and checked their references. This system will give us enormous flexibility with multiple projects going forward.
