Fall 2012 Construction Update: Your Funds at Work

By Charles T. Dubuque – Board Member, CRUDEM Foundation, Building Committee Chair

As we approach the fall, we are anxiously awaiting the completion of our Family Center.

Formerly called the Nutrition Center, this space was previously located near our maintenance and facilities area. In order to provide a larger space for the children and families who require nourishment and care, we secured additional ground adjacent to the hospital. In the coming weeks a new modular structure will be erected that will provide adequate space for the growing number of children that require specialized nutrition.

Additional housing for our Haitian staff physicians and their families is also needed. We have received a modular duplex that will be assembled and erected shortly. This duplex allows for two of our key Haitian physicians and their families to live on our campus.

Their presence and close proximity to the hospital are crucial to the daily care our patients require.

Over the next several months, our planned project to run a complete underground electrical system from our new generator building will be completed. This has been a two year project that Tim Traynor has overseen with the help of the Mazzetti group in Northern California. This new electrical grid will provide safe, efficient and secure power to our hospital, maintenance and housing campus. Our extensive growth over the past five years has required this upgrade. With no local utility, we are completely self-powered.

Preliminary work and planning continues towards our plan to build additional volunteer housing. Thankfully, we have many volunteers who want to serve at CRUDEM, but many times we just don’t have the space. Our goal is to construct additional housing for our medical teams.
