The Beautiful Miracle Named Tania

With all the tragic stories coming out of Haiti at the moment, we are pleased to offer a story of miracles and hope.

For several weeks, the Hôpital Sacré Coeur staff and a huge team of volunteers from around the country, led by New Mexico physician Dr. Anthony Karabanow, have worked tirelessly to transfer 23 year old Tania to the US for life saving surgery and treatments for advanced breast cancer. Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, MD accepted Tania as a patient and awaits her arrival in Baltimore on Sunday, October 24.

Tania and her mother Franciette left Cap Haitien this morning for the first leg of their journey. The incredibly gracious and generous volunteer Ed Constantine, accompanied by his son, flew his plane to Cap Haitien to pick up Tania and Franciette and flew them to Ft. Lauderdale.
Moments ago, Tania and Franciette cleared customs in Ft. Lauderdale!! On hand to greet them was Ft. Lauderdale resident and long time CRUDEM angel Tony Marcelli (a.k.a. St. Anthony of Milot!) and his daughter Angelique. Tony and Angelique are helping our friends get settled in for the night while they await their Southwest Airlines flight to Baltimore on Sunday. Surgeon Harry Sax, MD of Providence, RI added his generosity to the mix and arranged for their flight to Maryland.

When Tania and Franciette arrive in Baltimore, they will be swept up into the very caring circle of the Order of Malta, Baltimore region who have taken charge of getting them settled into their living quarters near Johns Hopkins Medical Center, ensured initial supplies of household items, personal items, food and clothing. The CRUDEM Foundation, has agreed to underwrite their US stay, which may last for one year.
While Tania still faces many medical challenges, she has already worked miracles in bringing together a diverse group of compassionate souls! Please keep Tania and her Mom in your prayers.  If you feel led to help out in any way, please contact us at: info@crudem.org. We will continue to update you on Tania’s progress both on our web site and on our facebook page.
