You Can Count On It…

Once again, Hôpital Sacré Coeur rose to a challenge and defied the odds. Since March, medical workers at government run hospitals have been on strike. The people in affected areas faced dismal and potentially grave prospects. The HSC staff moved into action and found ways to accommodate and effectively treat many of these displaced patients. At times, HSC swelled from its normal 125 beds to 160 beds. Their heroic efforts did not go unnoticed. Last month, Hôpital Sacré Coeur CEO Dr. Harold Previl accepted, on behalf of HSC, a commendation from the Haitian government for providing outstanding healthcare during a period of critical need.

When you think about it, such initiative and community service is not surprising. Since the mission’s inception in 1968, HSC has risen to the call of every challenge—be it natural disasters or human calamities—and succeeded. Hôpital Sacré Coeur stands firm as a solid, dependable institution. It’s those ever present qualities of enduring excellence, resiliency and adaptability that have shaped HSC’s sterling reputation in the region—and beyond. Every day scores of gravely ill and severely injured patients come through the door of Hôpital Sacré Coeur. Women facing high risk pregnancies, men with cardiac complications and children at peril from diabetes, malnutrition and a host of ailments; all these people, move mountains to find their way to HSC. In large numbers, people arrive daily, drawn by hope—based on years of successful outcomes.

In addition to delivering excellent healthcare to an increased patient population, last month the HSC staff collaborated with a team of Holy Name Medical Center volunteers to move the pharmacy into a more modern campus facility. They organized it for more effective inventory management, cost savings and faster delivery to patients. At the same time, work progresses at a steady pace toward completion of a milestone surgery center which will greatly expand the capacity for and quality of effective surgical interventions and follow up care.
